Is ‘Hyaluronic acid’ toxic?
Published 5 August 2018 · Updated 15 July 2025
Hyaluronic acid ‘HA’ is not toxic. HA is naturally produced by the body.
HA has been used in facial fillers for a number of years, and in osteoarthritis, where it is an important part of the synovial fluid that cushions the joints.
Hyaluronic acid is sold as an oral supplement for some conditions.
