Procedure Summary
The P-Shot is a non-surgical treatment for men using Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) extracted from your blood, which is then reinjected into the penis to treat:
- Erectile Dysfunction.
- Peyronie’s Disease.
The P-Shot involves injecting PRP harvested from the blood directly into the penis.
PRP has been used in medical, dental and the treatment of injuries since the 1980s.
When you sustain an injury the platelets in your blood act to start the healing and repairing process. These platelets contain growth factors and proteins that stimulate the stem cells in your body to produce new tissues including collagen, blood vessels and adipose tissue or fat.
P-Shot / Priapus Shot / Platelet Rich Plasma
P-Shot is a safe and effective procedure to improve erection quality. Blood is taken from your arm and spun in a centrifuge to isolate Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) containing growth factors. The PRP and growth factors are then injected into the penis to rejuvenate the penis, increasing the blood flow and improving the erection quality.
Possible (but Less Likely) Benefits
Although some patients have reported a modest increase in penis size following the P-Shot procedure, many have reported that the effect lasted only a few weeks.
If you require Penis Enlargement then Androfill is the correct procedure to use.
At Androfill Clinic the P-Shot procedure is used primarily to improve the quality of the erection, rather than to increase the penis size.
Penis Fillers are the primary method of increasing penis size at Androfill.
See Before & After photos from Penis Filler procedures if your main goal is to increase your penis size.
Downsides of P-Shot / PRP
The best clinical study to date reported that 69% of men with mild to moderate ED showed an improvement in ED, versus 27% in the placebo group.
Clinical research supporting the effectiveness of this procedure is linked below.
It is possible that the procedure will provide no noticeable improvement in the erection quality.
This could be for a number of reasons, including:
- The PRP might not be treating the underlying problem and an alternative treatment may be required, for example counselling or Shockwave.
- The cause of the Erectile Dysfunction is a hormonal imbalance, or a separate issue with the patient’s health.
Since 2010 the P-Shot has been used worldwide by doctors to treat Erectile Dysfunction.
Although the results are not guaranteed, clinical studies and our own experience at Androfill suggest that an improvement in erection quality following the P-Shot is more likely than not (a probability of greater than 50%).
Complications
Procedure Details
A sample of around 30 ml of blood is taken from your arm and then put into a centrifuge to separate the plasma from other blood cells, concentrating the platelets. The PRP is then injected into the penis causing the formation of new blood vessels resulting in improved blood flow and a firmer erection.
The entire treatment takes around 30 minutes.
Any increase in penis size will be temporary and size will decrease over the next few days as it is absorbed by the body.
Post-procedure patients are recommended to use a vacuum pump to continue stimulating erectile tissue.
ED medication such as Viagra can be used in conjunction with the treatment.
A booster shot after 8 weeks may be required and yearly top-ups are required.
There is no downtime. You can have sex the same day as your treatment.
The risks associated with this procedure are minimal.
There is no surgery required (only topical anaesthetic is used), and as the procedure uses your own blood there is no risk of an allergic reaction.
Some people may experience some mild discomfort and there may be a feeling of numbness but this is temporary and generally disappears within an hour or so after treatment.
There is a small risk of infection as exists whenever the skin is broken with a needle.
Do not touch the injection site for a few hours after the treatment or you risk spreading bacteria to the area.
You cannot have this treatment if you have:
- a urinary tract infection
- inflammation of the penis
- an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection)
- low platelet count
- fibrinogen deficiency
- a blood infection
- using warfarin, dabigatran, heparin
- very low blood pressure.
This treatment may be less effective for smokers, as smoking constricts blood vessels and decreases the body’s ability to heal.
